Not much to recommend tonight, least of all NBC’s Celebrity Circus (really, now?).

Flip a coin between a new episode of Design on a Dime (HGTV, 9:30p/8:30c) and PBS’ Carrier companion piece “Another Day in Paradise” (9p/8c, check local listings).

Tonight on PBS, Frontline explores the lives of nine young people growing up in modern-day China. “Young and Restless in China,” a special two-hour edition of the venerable documentary series, airs tonight at 9p/8c (check local listings for your PBS station). The program follows its subjects over a four-year period and chronicles the challenges of growing up in a changing China. This is an especially timely report with the Beijing Olympics slated for later this summer.

It’s all about Showtime for The Manifesto tonight. First, it’s the fourth season premiere of Weeds at 10p/9c. When we last saw Nancy, she had doused her house in gasoline and lit a match. Now she and her family are fleeing Agrestic for a new life on the border.

And Weeds is launching another new series this summer. After propping up David Duchovny’s Californication during last season, Weeds will now lead in to British import Secret Diary of a Call Girl, premiering tonight at 10:30p/9:30c. Californication returns later this summer for a second season.

Four weekends of Degrassi marathons lead up to the final six episodes of season seven, coming in July. Tonight at 8p/7c, The N airs the first installment of Degrassi: The Ultimate Party, a series of minisodes to tide you over until new episodes return. If you’ve never seen Canadian sensation Degrassi: The Next Generation (think Saved by the Bell, only more realistic and relatable), tonight’s your chance to jump in. See it from the beginning starting tonight at 6p/5c.

Too soon, VH1, too soon.

For the record, Ben Folds predicted this a few years ago. In his song “Bastard,” he laments:

Kids today gettin’ old too fast
They can’t wait to grow up so they can kiss some ass
They get nostalgic about the last ten years
Before the last ten years have passed

I caught a minute of I Love the ’80s: 3-D last night on VH-1, and what do I learn from the omnipresent upcoming programming event bug? That I Love New Millennium premieres June 23. Call me crazy, but shouldn’t the decade be over before we start waxing nostalgic about it? The ’90s edition didn’t kick off until 2004, a full five years into the new decade. Nonetheless, the show will go on. Are we even ready to remember this decade yet? Maybe the VH-1 pop culture dissection machine should dial it back a notch or three.

It’s all about the Bravo tonight. First, at a special time of 8p/7c, it’s the fourth season premiere of summer sensation Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List. The ginger comedienne is flanked by Team Griffin and her hilarious mom on various wacky, publicity-contriving adventures all over the world.

Then, Bravo presents the 2008 A-List Awards, dedicated to celebrating the creative process and showcasing some of the leading creative minds working today. The ceremony is hosted by none other than Kathy Griffin. Manifesto faves 30 Rock and Weeds are among the contenders for A-List TV Show. Even Barack Obama is up for an award. And the “suck it, Jesus” haters need not worry — the entire affair is prerecorded.

Tonight on ABC, it’s the series finale of Anne Heche’s two-season wonder Men in Trees, at 10p/9c. “Taking the Lead” serves as a makeshift ending for the show, which was on the bubble going into this year’s upfronts and can likely be considered another victim of this year’s notorious writers strike. The show developed a loyal following, but apparently ratings weren’t good enough to satisfy ABC, which has been burning off the final few episodes outside the regular TV season.

Tonight before the NBA Finals, Jimmy Kimmel Live comes to primetime on ABC at 8p/7c. The perennial third-place chat host in late night has been making ratings strides of late, and ABC is hoping this primetime exposure will give Kimmel an extra boost.
