‘Sesame’ goes claymation

In Uncategorized on August 20, 2007 at 10:29 pm

Sesame Workshop is selling The Adventures of Bert and Ernie, a claymation spinoff of its long-running Emmy-laden children’s show Sesame Street, in Europe. B&C reports that the show could eventually migrate to this side of the pond.

Bert and Ernie seem to have gotten lost in the Sesame shuffle over the years, muscled to the side for more popular (or merchandisable) characters like Elmo and Big Bird. It’s nice to see them finally getting some attention.

Although this bucks the trend of extending a platform through nontraditional distribution channels, it’s understandable with a show whose target audience isn’t old enough to have mastered the technology.
