EMMYS | Kathy Griffin censored for Creative Arts telecast

In E!, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, Primetime Emmys on September 13, 2007 at 8:10 am

It really is true. A D-lister just can’t get a break.

After complaints from the Catholic League, the television academy announced this week that “Kathy Griffin’s offensive remarks will not be part of the E! telecast on Saturday night.”

A spokesman for the Catholic League called Griffin’s comments “vulgar and in-your-face,” which is par for the course if you’ve seen her standup act. The very fact that Griffin is an equal-opportunity offender deflates the “hate speech” argument the Catholic League is peddling, though.

The AP story leaves out what it calls “an off-color remark about Christ,” so for the record, Griffin’s remark was, “Suck it, Jesus.”
