Notes, program and otherwise

  • My first commentary piece is online at Big Brother Access. I look at the difference between watching the feeds and just watching the primetime episodes.
  • If you like your drama with a bit of brooding eye candy, TNT has some shows for you. The “Robin Hood”-style caper Leverage returns for season two tonight at 9p/8c, and it looks like Christian Kane still has that long hair. And if you’ve missed Dylan McDermott’s brooding and yelling ever since he left The Practice, there’s a new show with your name on it. Dark Blue chronicles the world of undercover police officers. Here’s hoping McDermott’s assignments don’t require him to crack a smile.
  • Emmy nominations will be announced tomorrow, and for the first time, there will be six entrants in the best comedy and best drama categories. I’m curious as usual to see the list, which I’ll share in the morning. Also, the Academy has announced that Emmy antagonizer Kathy Griffin will host the Creative Arts Emmys, or the Schmemmys; I guess after two years of her controversial acceptance speeches, they decided to get out in front of her predictably foul mouth. Professional host Neil Patrick Harris will helm the big broadcast.
