Notes from the weekend (10/3-10/4)

Dear The Amazing Race,

Perhaps I’ve been watching you so long that I’ve figured out the editing formula. But it’s also possible that said editing has gotten a little sloppy. At any rate, please stop telegraphing which team will be Philiminated in the first act of an episode. (Not sure what I mean? Well, in the first half of an episode, if it seems like someone is getting a large amount of screen time for interviews/commentary, or if they seem overly sentimental about their leg in [insert country here], they’re likely headed for Philimination. See: those old people last night.) I’m not saying I’m not going to stop watching or anything, but damn. Where’s the suspense?

Dear Saturday Night Live,

Please don’t say the C-word next week. That would just look desperate, not to mention be highly inappropriate. I’m just saying, last week the new girl said “the f” (and no, I’m not talking about my new favorite texting definition inspired by Modern Family, “why the face?”). And the other night, Lady Gaga busted out her most sibilant s-word during a musical performance. Calm it down with the obscenity. After 35 seasons, you remain on broadcast TV. Also, given the fracas over last week’s f-word, why has virtually no one mentioned this weekend’s potty-mouthing? It’s quite clear, as you can see for yourself in the post-jump clip:

The word in question is clearly heard just after the 3-minute mark.
