IDOL VIRGIN | Top 8 girls

In Idol Virgin on March 10, 2010 at 10:04 am

In the season’s first one-hour performance episode, there were a few surprises.

It feels like the season is in motion at last, as we prepare to eliminate four more contestants and pare the field down to twelve. The brisk pace and thankful elimination of the taped interviews made the show fly by. They have proved this show can be done efficiently and finish pretty much on time. Also, every song is one of Randy’s all-time favorites.

Here’s my quick breakdown of the girls:

  • Katie Stevens‘ sang an unexciting, deer-in-the-headlights version of “Breakaway.”
  • Siobhan Magnus was bold and confident and needs to harness that offbeat personality as an asset.
  • Lacey Brown did a decent but unmemorable job.
  • Katelyn Epperly went way back for a Carole King song that just felt wrong for her.
  • Didi Benami finally make me not hate her. This may have been her best performance ever. Even her look improved.
  • I was pulling for Paige Miles, but she just kept getting worse as her song went on.
  • Crystal Bowersox is so consistently good that we now expect her to excel each week.
  • Lilly Scott…country music is maybe not for her.

The remaining eight guys take the stage tonight, and if the girls were any indication, we might be in for a few surprises.
