GREY’S | Heigl out

In Grey's Anatomy on March 12, 2010 at 10:18 am

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Katherine Heigl is in the process of being released from her Grey’s Anatomy contract. Rather than return to film the handful of remaining season six episodes, the actress is cutting ties now, and Michael Ausiello reports that her final episode has already aired.

Grey’s Anatomy is arguably the most troubled set in modern television history. All that’s missing is an on-set death. From the well-documented fracas over Isaiah Washington years back to the weirdness and eventual on-screen demise of fan favorite T.R. Knight, and Patrick Dempsey’s frustrated comments about the show, it seems that there’s always some kind of trouble brewing over there. No one has been more vocal than Heigl, though. She will be missed, and I can’t help but wonder if Izzie will get the Erica Hahn treatment and barely be mentioned again.

As season six winds down, Grey’s is on the precipice of becoming the new Dukes of Hazzard, where the original cast is entirely replaced due to backstage disputes. Despite the recent exits of Knight and Heigl, Grey’s has managed to navigate some solid episodes lately. Keep an eye out for the usual baffling, half-truth statement from executive producer Shonda Rhimes.
